The Social-Constructivist approach to designing an LMS-based course is unlike the Instructional approach in that rather than having a teacher as the expert and stressing a relationship between the students and the teacher, this approach depends largely on the collaboration of other students. This pedagogy is put into practice in LMS applications such as blogs, wiki, discussion forums and group projects.
The Social-Constructivist approach opens up the learning system to a wider audience, including the students in the LMS-hosted course themselves, and is the angle being adopted by many course creators these days, but it’s not the only one to take into consideration.
