I remember that all throughout my academic career, up until my last years of college, my education consisted of swallowing and regurgitating trite information for one year, after which most or all of it would become irrelevant and be irretrievably forgotten. A typical learning system.

Apart from the fact that once the final exam was over, most of the learned information might as well have become obsolete, the problem with this learning system is that a lot of information is thrown at you at one time for you to memorize, after which you hardly ever see it again. With this learning system, it’s no wonder that we forget. It’s easier to learn than it is to remember. Solution: Practice what you’ve learned at spaced intervals over a period of time.
