With more people gaining access to education and interactive tools, online learning systems have demonstrated their potential in terms of effecting positive social changes around the world. Regardless of political views, online learning systems and all internet organizations should be inspired by Barack Obama’s inaugural address today, and his emphasis on the potential of technology.  He reminds us of the challenge that lies ahead for the technology industry:

“For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act–[…]to lay a new foundation for growth. […]We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost. […]And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age.”

Technology offers endless possibilities for social and environmental growth and prosperity. We need to start harnessing the power of online learning systems and collaborative tools to generate real global change.
