If you’re considering a change in career, be sure to have a well-developed plan for making the transition. Don’t rush into a commitment with a training program or online learning system until you’ve thought long and hard about it, and have developed a strategy.
Changing careers takes time and patience. And while online learning systems are certainly convenient and flexible, you may expect to dedicate a comparable amount of time to online learning systems as you would a traditional course.
Get to know your skills. Richard Bolles, author of What Color is Your Parachute? 2003: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers, gives some basic but valuable words of wisdom. “When people change careers,” he says, “they have to figure out what they most enjoy doing in terms of skills.” Be sure to put your needs and specific skills first, rather than looking to the job market to make your choice. The career that’s right for you takes advantage of both your skills and your interests.
