LMS-Hosted Language Courses in the U.S.

LMS-Hosted Language Courses in the U.S.The United States is world-renowned for its shortcomings in second-language knowledge. It’s not a false stereotype; according to the U.S. Department of Education, out of every 100 college credits taken by U.S. students in a given semester, only 8.6 are for studying a foreign language, despite many having had the choice to take online classes using LMS.

In contrast, a Eurobarometer survey found that 56 percent of Europeans speak at least one language in addition to their mother tongues, increased from 53 percent 5 years ago.

The U.S. is among the richest countries in the world, with access to the best technology. So why aren’t Americans taking advantage of all the LMS-hosted online courses available in order acquire, for example, Spanish–a language whose importance grows every minute? With the help of technology like LMSs, I think we could see it happen.
