Of course, educational goals of educators and companies are often aided by podcasting information for students and employees. But what about those who are themselves learning?
In recent years, school learning systems around the country have begun podcast projects for elementary school students. Students choose their own topics for the podcast or are given assignments by their teachers. They might record stories they’ve written, book reports, interviews, activity or project descriptions, riddles and jokes, or stories others have written. Engaging in these podcast projects becomes an important part of the literacy learning system, helping children develop reading, speaking, and listening skills–not to mention technological skills.
Children are given a chance to broadcast their voices and work to a vast audience as well as interact with listeners, welcoming comments and feedback. Perhaps most importantly, the process of creating podcasts instills in children a sense of accomplishment in the learning system and teamwork with their peers.
