The PLE vs. the Learning Management System

PLE vs. the Learning Management SystemThe Personal Learning Environment (PLE) is a new learning system that is fundamentally opposite of the Learning Management System. The PLE is a new approach to e-learning, whose focus is the learner; on the other hand, the Learning Management System bases its approach on an institution or course-centered view of learning.

The PLE is a system that allows learners to control and manage their own learning experience. The system gives learners support to set their own goals, manage the content and which methodology they will follow, and communicate with others during this experience of learning. The end result is a learner who has accomplished his or her learning goals on his or her own terms only. Everything in the PLE, unlike in the Learning Management System, revolves around the learner.
